Aphrodite “Freda” Stavros, 94 of Oakmont, formerly of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Wednesday November 6, 2024 and now resides in glory with God.
Born June 5, 1930, in Ambridge. She was the daughter of the late Zaharias and Chrysoula Karagianis. Beloved wife for 57 years to the late Jack James Stavros until his passing in 2011. Loving mother to Jim (Carrie) Stavros and Jack (Tina) Stavros. Yiayia to Lynda (Manny) Antonio, Matt (Katie) Stavros, Christina Stavros, Alexis Stavros and Sophia Stavros and Step-Yiayia to Johnny Ioannou. Great Yiayia to Stella and Nora Antonio and Ellie and Connor Stavros. Beloved Thea (Aunt) to many nieces and nephews.
Along with her loving parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Zabetakis; Arby Colista; brother, John Karagianis and nephew George Zabetakis.
Freda was a long-time member of the Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church in Oakmont where she was the cherished church administrator for 20 years and loved serving the church alongside her beloved priest, the late Very Rev. Fr. Polycarp Rameas. Her eye for all things fashion and a good bargain were unmatched. Her flower garden was always blooming and one of the best on the block! She was an avid romantic novel reader, loved to travel when she could and was an amazing cook of all cuisines, especially Greek food. She filled her last several years reading her Bible (and her romantic novels) and unceasingly praying for all of her family, friends and loved ones. This, we feel, was the source of her true beauty, which was radiant! Her love for her family was always evident. We were always welcomed with a large smile and even a bigger kiss. We will miss her!
Friends and relatives will be received from 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024 at the Holy Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, 12 Washington Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. Following visitation, a funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr Michael A. Gavrilos officiating. Freda will be laid to rest with her late husband who was a World War II Army Veteran during a private interment at The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to her beloved Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church. Arrangements entrusted to CHARLES W. TRENZ FUNERAL HOME
