Carried home on the wings of angels, our father lived to serve God, his family and his community. John "Jack" of Penn Hills was born June 3, 1931 and passed into eternal life on Thursday April 10th, 2025. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Margaret (Schano) in 2020. Jack is survived by his son Jeffrey, (Nelda Pogue), grandsons John and Patrick Fischer, daughter Jeanine (JimSismour) granddaughters Emily (Christopher Kukstis) great grandson George Kukstis, Elizabeth Sismour, Meghan Sismour, and grandsons Peter Sismour(Andrea), great granddaughters Emma and Noah Sismour, Timothy Sismour, and son Bryan, and grandsons Máté Fischer (Rachel Franklin) great grandson Max Fischer and Aaron Fischer.
Jack was the youngest of 9 and last surviving sibling of the family of Edward Fischer and Mary Callahan Fischer of East Liberty. He was a graduate of the class of 1949 from Central Catholic, a veteran of the Korean War and a proud Sheet Metal Worker Union Local 12 man, and long involved in advocating Democracy in Penn Hills. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Susanna Church, now a part of Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish, for many years, a former CCD teacher, and last but not least, a lifelong Pirates fan, a love which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He delighted in the fact that he and his Margie watched Maz hit his game winning home run in Game 7 of the 1960 World Series. He trekked every year for over 60 years with his family and extended family to the shores of Ocean City, New Jersey, where his 4th generation continues to travel and love. He never met a park or a crossword puzzle that didn’t call his name. John Fischer was kind, he was humble and he was adored by his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of lessons in service to God, family, country and community and we are all the better for it.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 15 from 4-8pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday morning at Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish, St. Susanna Church.
