Margaret McVeigh Obituary

Margaret began her life journey on March 31, 1920 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  She excelled as a student and for the past 100 years, has continued her passion – reading and learning.  She married her lifelong partner, Tom, in 1944 while he was home on leave from service in World War II.  Margaret and Tom moved their family to Valley Stream, New York in 1955 where they raised their four children, Tom, Terry, Kathy, and Joe.

In 1986, Margaret and Tom returned to Pittsburgh where they remained until 2001 when they came to New Jersey to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  Tom passed in November 2001 and Margaret stayed in New Jersey with her daughter, Kathy, and enjoyed traveling to visit Tom and Lorraine in Florida; Terry and Ellen in Connecticut; and Joe and Marilyn in Virginia, often staying for extended periods of time.  She became a fan favorite of friends in four different states!

Her family has grown over the years – 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren – quite the legacy!

Margaret celebrated her 100th birthday this year!  She has been a resident of Symphony Manor Assisted Living in Feasterville, PA since December 2018 where she was provided with tender and loving care.  The pandemic eliminated in-person visits, but her daughter, Kathy, was permitted to by her side during her final two days.  With the help of the Symphony Manor staff, through facetime and other phone calls, her family had a chance to express their love and thanks.

Margaret was a special person.  Her intelligence and soft spoken, nurturing nature made for easy conversations and memorable moments.  All her children, grand and great included, will cherish the many times she read books to them, sharing her passion for reading so intimately.   Her presence at family gatherings made them all the more special.

She will be sorely missed by her entire family – her sons, Tom, Terry and Joe McVeigh; her daughter, Kathy Martin; her daughters-in-law Lorraine, Ellen and Marilyn McVeigh; her son-in-law, Brian Martin; her grandchildren (and their spouses) Laura McVeigh, Denise Adamoyurka (and Chris), Tom McVeigh (and Jayme), Terry McVeigh (and Nikki), Brian Martin (and Christina), Danny McVeigh (and Melissa), Kevin McVeigh (and Kim), Karolyn Crawn (and Mike), Chris McVeigh, Joey McVeigh, Brian McVeigh (and Beenish), and Michael McVeigh; her great grandchildren - Christian and Reilly Adamoyurka; Jackson, Sophie, and Lincoln Martin; Michael, Allison, and Colin Crawn; Kaylee Morrissey and Aidan, Ryan and Kenna McVeigh; Ryan, Colton and Teagan McVeigh; Brian and Brendan Cummins and Max McVeigh; Camden McVeigh.

We are blessed and truly thankful for the many years we had to spend with our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother – affectionately known as “GG”.  We will miss her greatly but take solace in knowing that her spirit is alive in each of us and will continue to guide us. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services and interment are private.
