We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Charles W. Trenz Funeral Home, Inc.
Edward C. Hoover, 92, passed away on May 14, 2022. The love of his life, wife Mary Jane Hoover, 91, passed away just three weeks later on June 4, 2022. Both were called to heaven on beautiful, bright sunny Saturday mornings. Longtime residents of Penn Hills, PA, they both passed away in Rochester, NY. Edward (Ed) was born on September 26, 1929 to Grove and Helen Hoover in Altoona, PA, and was the youngest of four boys. Mary Jane (Jane) was born on September 26, 1930 to Isaac and Matilda Treese in Hollidaysburg, PA and was an only child. Sharing the same birthdate, Ed and Jane actually first met when Jane was three days old and Ed was one year and three days old. It took them a while, but eventually they started dating in June of 1952 and married six months later on Christmas Eve of that same year. They adored each other and had a beautiful, loving marriage that lasted for 69 years.
Jane graduated as an R.N. from the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She went on to earn her B.S. degree and School Nurse Certification in 1976 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, continuing on there to earn her Master’s degree in Education and her Secondary School Guidance Certification in 1977. In 1980, she completed, through the Pennsylvania Department of Health, an Emergency Medical Services Program earning her certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), just in case it might come in handy someday. She had a variety of jobs as an R.N. in Hollidaysburg, PA; Altoona, PA; Olympia, WA; and Pittsburgh, PA. She began working as a substitute school nurse for the Penn Hills School District in the 1950s and went on to work there full-time as a school nurse from 1973 to 1992. Jane was active in the community, volunteering her time to many organizations including the Red Cross, PTA, Penn Hills Garden Club and Penn Hills Service Association. Jane was also active in her church and was able to share her beautiful singing voice, performing hundreds of solos over the years. Beginning as a young girl, Jane developed a lifelong hobby of collecting dolls, with her collection now over 2,000 in number.
Ed and Jane are survived by their daughters Mary Anne (C.J. Manoli) of San Rafael, CA and Linda (Hugh Manoli) of Rochester, NY; their five grandsons John, Charles, Christian, Hugh and Edward; and numerous nieces and nephews. They were preceded in death by their beloved son, Steven E. Hoover.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Hebron Church in Penn Hills. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Penn Hills Service Association.
