Regis Sauers, Sr. Obituary

Regis "Rege" Raymond Sauers Sr. was born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 9th, 1934.  He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1952 and shortly thereafter joined the Army as a Paratrooper.  He took pride in serving his country.  Most of his career he worked for People’s Natural Gas Company and retired from there in 1989.

Regis married the love of his life, Elizabeth, “Betty” Gardone on July 12th 1958 and to this union 3 girls and 2 boys were born.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother in law and uncle to not only his blood relatives, but also many non-blood relatives he claimed as part of his family.

He was an avid softball player and embraced the opportunity to coach his son’s baseball team.   He often played baseball and football with the “dead end kids”.  Grandma Jones was terrified when she looked out the door and saw “that big kid” playing with the little kids.  “Who is that?  He is going to hurt those kids.”   But it was our dad/ our Uncle Rege.  Just one memory that will always be here.

He loved watching sports,  Notre Dame and Joe Montana were a few of his loves!  You would also see him waiting on the Sunday paper to do the crossword puzzles or catch him reading a book, particularly Vietnam books.

Preceded in his death was his father, Regis, his brother Gerald and his daughter Lou Ann.

Rege is survived by his devoted, loving wife Betty, 2 daughters; Anna Marie (Rea) and Sharyn (Shari), 2 sons, Michael and Regis Jr,  and 2 granddaughters Ashley and Raleigh.  Left to mourn  are also 2 sisters-in-law; Mary Lou and Rosie, 1 brother-in-law Joe, and  a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Services and Interment are Private.
