Richard J. Burkhart

Richard, who was 85 years old of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026. He was the beloved husband, 59 years, of Audrey Burkhart. Richard was the loving father of Scott Burkhart, Stephen Burkhart(Aya), and the late Cathy Kundrick. He was grandfather of Dr. Yuya Burkhart (Julia), Hannah Burkhart, AJ Kundrick(Abigail), Lexi Kundrick , and Ava Waters. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Burkhart(Jan) and Lee Burkhart(the late Gail). He is survived by extended family members and many friends. Richard was a Navy veteran of Vietnam, where he served as a photographer. He continued his photography professionally until he retired from Matthews International. He was very active at his two parishes, Saint Joan of Arc (Library, PA) and later St. Bartholomew (Penn Hills). After retirement, he continued to be active with his friends many of whom were also veterans. Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 2 PM until 8 PM at the Charles W Trenz Funeral Home Inc., 11110 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills, PA. Mass of Christian Burial at Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish, St. Susanna Church, Wednesday at 12 noon. Interment with military honors will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
