Terrence "Terry" Flaherty Obituary

Terrence “Terry” Michael Flaherty (72),  born August 23, 1952 passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025 surrounded by family.

Raised in Penn Hills, PA, Terry was the beloved son of the late James P. Sr and Rosella (Sis) Flaherty.  Nephew of the late Catherine (Kit) Flaherty.

Terry is the brother of the late James “Jim” P. Flaherty Jr (Kathie) and survived by his sister Kate Flaherty Podkul (Stan).

He is also survived by nephews: Lee A. Carney (Erinn) and their children Shane and Colin; James Flaherty lll (Rebecca) and their children Margaret and James Flaherty IV; Matthew Podkul (Natalie) and their son Domenick; and Terrence Podkul.

Additionally, he is survived by Betty Walde, her daughter Kelly and son Ryan (Julia), their daughter Grace.

A proud graduate of Penn Hills High School (‘71), he received his Undergrad at Indiana University of PA (‘75) and Masters from Duquesne University.  He taught at Franklin Regional High School for 30 years and is fondly remembered by former colleges and students.

His passion for sports and love for his nephews led him into coaching (along with brother Jim and brother in law Stan) his nephews Jamie, Matt and Terrence all the way through their Franklin Area Athletic Association baseball “careers”.  The boys and their boyhood friends still fondly remembered their 3rd base coach.

He was the best son, brother, “Unc” and friend you could ask for.

He was a diehard Pittsburgh sports fan and Pirates optimist.
