Verjin “Ginny” Economos passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Thursday, June 12, 2025. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Laura (Armstrong) Farabaugh and Lisa (Armstrong) Murphy, her son-in-law, Bert Farabaugh, and her grandchildren whom she loved with all of her heart, Bill Armstrong, Alexis Farabaugh, Hope Ritchie, Jordan Ritchie, and Lily Murphy. She was predeceased by parents Armine Cecizyan and Aram Ceziyan. Ginny will also be welcomed in heaven by her first daughter, Linda (Armstrong)Shaner.
Ginny was born and raised in the small village of Rumeli Hisar in Istanbul, Turkey, where she spent many days walking by and swimming in the Bosphorus. She was often the subject of her father’s photographs that are in a collection of beautiful albums. Ginny married the late Richard P. Armstrong in 1959 while he was a consultant working in Istanbul. They fell in love , married , had 3 girls and traveled the world together . They settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with their loving daughters. Ginny and Richard were married for 25 years before his passing. Ginny loved caring for others and became a nursing assistant at Shadyside Hospital for 20 years. She later married the late Michael S. Economos(Stewart , Maria and Thomas) and they enjoyed life together for 20 years. Ginny undoubtedly touched everyone’s lives with her compassion and ability to make friends with everyone she met. Those who knew her loved her and enjoyed her bold and caring personality, quick wit, delicious Turkish and Armenian food, and stunning crochet and knitting projects. One of her favorite crafts to make was her beautiful and unique baby Moses baskets. Each one was made carefully thinking of the special baby. She loved her family and friends with all her heart and soul. We will be wrapped in her love for years to come.
A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Contributions in her name can be made to a charity close to your heart.
