Vivian Monfredi Obituary

Vivian Monfredi

Raffelina (Vivian) Monfredi was born in Pittsburgh on May 16, 1930, to Carl and Sarah Lepiane. She passed away September 25, 2024. She was 94.

She is preceded in passing by her husband of 65 years Domenic, and is survived by their three children Michael (Cathy), Bob (Karen), Cindy, her grandchildren Donna(Kevin), Christina (Frankie), Nicholas(Allison), Annie(Rob), Megan(Colin) and Sarah, and her great-grandchildren Gwen, Richard, David, Colton, Mila and Halle. She is a sister to Jim Lepiane and Helen Glessner and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Raffelina (she went by Vivian) Monfredi was a warm, dedicatedand beloved mom, wife, aunt, sister, grandparent, great-grandparent and friend. Maybe small in stature but she was sharp and strong and determined in everything she did, especially caring for and loving her family.

In addition to being a great full-time mom and wife, she also worked as a secretary and office coordinator for many years. She grew up in the South Hills area, married Domenic Monfredi and then moved to Penn Hills where they raised a wonderful family. She worked in downtown Pittsburgh during the 50’s and latersupported Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament school. She then worked for years at the University of Pittsburgh in the School of Engineering, from which she retired.

She loved being with family and friends above all. She loved cooking big Sunday Italian dinners, including her meatballs which were the favorites of her whole family and friends. She always had dinner on the table, and if you stopped by her house you knew she always had something good to eat in the refrigerator and was happy to serve you. She and Dom enjoyed their tradition of meeting good friends and neighbors at Eat-n-Park after Sunday mass.

She had a strong devotion to her Catholic faith especially to the Blessed Mother, with many medallions and well-worn prayer cards, which she liked to read over each day.

She stayed sharp by following her favorite game shows including Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and the Price is Right. She liked shopping at Kaufmann’s downtown store - before the malls, and enjoyed reading, doing her crossword puzzles and staying organized. She rooted for all of her home teams, the PittPanthers, the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates and Penn Hills.

Always very welcoming, she liked when neighbors and relatives came over, and when her kids’ friends came to play variousgames in the house and backyard. Although a bit smaller inheight, she had a very big heart and was always a wonderful lady to look up to.
