William Schooley Obituary

William J. Schooley, best known as Bill, died at his home in Penn Hills at the age of 86, on January 13 after a long and cherished life. The beloved husband of the late Judith Walter Schooley for 58 years, Bill is survived by daughter Elizabeth, of Penn Hills, and Tim (Kelli McElhinny), of Pittsburgh, and daughter-in-law Fawn Schooley (wife of the late Bill Schooley III), of Washington, and their three children, Dylan R. Schooley (Sydney Dydiw), William J. Schooley IV, and daughter Delaney M. Schooley.

Born in Altoona, Bill served in the United States Army and was a graduate of Yale University, and of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Masters of Business Administration. Along with a long career at Westinghouse, Bill was a dedicated golfer, a formidable chess player, a lifelong reader and an inveterate letter-to-the-editor writer, a natural outlet for his always engaged mind and active curiosity. Bill will always be remembered with love and admiration as a father and grandfather, roles for which he was always there, a constant, supportive presence and source of wisdom and experience. The Schooley family will always be grateful for the care he received by Family Hospice and for the Cremation Services provided by Charles W. Trenz Funeral Home of Penn Hills. William J. Schooley will be interned at Mount Hope Cemetery in Penn Hills. No service will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
